Ever since I was a child, I loved working with people. That's why I chose a career as an orthodontist, because I get to work with patients of all ages over an extended period of time. Many times this means I get to treat entire families through the years. This has been a blessing to me, and I am thankful that I can be a part of this wonderful community!
I have been practicing in Cary since 2001. I love helping patients feel better about their appearance by giving them a beautiful smile. Our practice has been awarded by Carolina Parent Magazine as the "Best Orthodontic Practice in the Triangle" four years in a row. We have also received the News and Observer's award as the "Best Orthodontic Practice in Cary" for 2014, 2015, and now for 2016. My hope is that we can always make patients out there feel this way about our practice!
In my journey to become an orthodontist, I attended Penn State University as a pre-med major, and received early acceptance into the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, where I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery with Distinction in 1998. During my years in dental school, I was awarded as a Hinman Academic Scholar twice, was given the honorary William S. Kramer Award for Academic Excellence, and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society. Upon graduation, I was awarded the Alpha Omega Outstanding Dental Student Award for graduating Valedictorian of my dental class.
After attaining my DDS, I continued my education at UNC Chapel Hill, and received my Masters of Science degree in Orthodontics in 2001. The orthodontic program at UNC is recognized as being one of the top orthodontic residencies in the world; it accepts only five applicants out of approximately 300 applicants each year. During this orthodontic residency, I learned from one of the greatest and most well known orthodontic professors in the world, Dr. William Proffit. It was a privilege and honor to be part of this program while Dr. Proffit was Chairman.
I always had a special interest in children with cleft lip and palate. During my summer breaks while in dental school, I spent time volunteering at the Cleft lip and Craniofacial Center in Lancaster, PA and enjoyed being a part of giving these children smiles they could be proud of. My master’s thesis at UNC was on the evaluation of facial aesthetics and muscular movements in patients with cleft lip and palate and was published in the Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal in 2002.
I love learning about orthodontics, and enjoy integrating new methods into my practice. Every year, I take multiple hours of C.E. courses to keep abreast of the most advanced orthodontic services that I can offer to my patients.
My staff is a second family to me. I thank God every day for this wonderful group of women who truly care about our patients. Most of them have been with me since my first year in practice. Together, our goal is to do an excellent job and to make every patient's experience with us a great one. Please visit "meet the staff" page to see photos and bios of each team member.
Family and Community
I grew up in a dental family. My father was a talented cosmetic dentist who practiced over 30 years in Harrisburg, PA. He was my inspiration in becoming a dentist and also choosing a specialty in which I could make people feel great about themselves. My husband and I have been married over 22 years. We love living in Cary, and are glad to raise our children in such a wonderful community. When I am not in the office, I am a typical mom- running my kids to different activities! But when I get a little free time... I enjoy playing tennis, decorating, traveling, reading books, or most of all just spending quality time with my family.
As an active member of Cary, I attend Hope Community Church, participate in local charities and school sports and auctions. I love to support our community and the great people that are part of it!
